- A matter of great importance was the building in 1923 of the fire station, which had proved its usefulness throughout the period and perhaps particularly during the war. [same web site refers to 2 fires, one in 1912 and one in 1915, when no fire brigade existed in New Mills] Councillor Kitchen recalled that the first fire engine was named Susan. [cannot confirm if this building is the fire station referred to, or a different location]
