- during the Second World War Newport Fire Brigade had vacated the Guildhall and found themselves temporarily homeless until an arrangement was made to house them and some of the AFS in the cattle market and buildings on the corner of South Street and Church Litten. This remained the case up to and after the formation of the NFS until the fire station further down South Street was opened on 18 February 1942 [this doesn't match build date of 1953, so maybe the Sunningdale Road station bridges the 1942-1953 period] |
