- The first mines rescue unit opened in 1902 in Tankersley in West Riding with more units opening soon after starting in 1909 with Aberaman in Glamorgan and Crumlin in Monmouthshire, Rhymney Valley in Tredegar next to Elliot’s Colliery (pictured) in 1910 and in 1911 the following units opened, Abercynon, Brynmenin, Dinas Rhondda, Loughor and Maesteg. |
