- continuing around the corner into Church Green stood Hayes Fire Station, two of the buildings which faced Church Road; one of which housed the pump and the other an ambulance have long since gone when the new fire station opened in Shepiston Lane. However, the large wooden building, which once housed the magnificent wheeled-escape, still survives and at present is used by the London Ambulance Service. Directly behind this building in the yard at the back was the drill or hose drying tower
